Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, and a very impressive city with a massive castle overlooking the city from a high rock. The walk up to the castle will lead you through the the old part of Edinburgh, with very narrow lanes and staircases. You can walk back down along the Royal Mile, which is the most touristy area of Edinburgh with lots of souvenir shops, but a very nice street all the same. At the bottom of the hill you will find Holyrood Palace which is still used by members of the Royal Family on their visits to Edinburgh. If you want to do some serious shopping go to Princes Street. You cannot miss it, seriously.
