"Achill Island" a Achill Island Travel Page by Krumel

In summer 2000 I went to Achill Island for a weekend, and unfortunately it was constantly shrouded in fog when we were there. We stayed in a hostel right by the sea, and yet we could not see it. It was a bit frustrating to be looking at the postcards in the shops and see the beautiful scenery that apparantly surrounded us and we could see absolutely nothing most of the time.

Achill Island is not actually an island, but connected to the mainland by a bridge. It has some lovely sandy beaches, a very rugged coastline in other places and some mountains (or rather big hills), ancient monuments and a deserted village. So even although the weather was so miserable we still enjoyed our weekend at Achill, and I will go back and hopefully see it in the sunshine sometime.

The weather was so miserable that weekend that even the sheep looked for every available shelter. I just hope that whoever lives in that house is not in too much of a rush when going out that door.

And the view from the top of this mountain is probably absolutely lovely if you have some sort of X-ray eyes.
