The China World Hotel- do not stay at this hotel unless you are having a conference at the World Trade Centre Beijing. This hotel is overrated and over priced. (For those of you who is thinking of staying at the Shangri-La Beijing, don't even bother because it is just too far away from the city center and is mostly a hotel for tourist groups with coaches, unless you are attached to the Shangri-La chain). US$130 for a deluxe room
Unique Qualities: Proximity to businessess and offices of big corporations

(In the order of my preferences) The St. Regis Beijing- elegant rooms all with butler service (pictured- statesman suite), this hotel is definitely The Best hotel in Beijing. (However, I heard that the standard rooms are indeed very 'standard'). Be sure to behave at the St. Regis as it is often patronised by high ranking officials and head of states. US$220++ for a statesman suite
Unique Qualities: Immaculate service, excellent restaurants and lounges

Palace Hotel- hotel managed by the world famous Peninsula Group. However, do not expect it to be just like the Peninsula Hong Kong or any other Peninsulas or you would be disappointed. Having said that, it is in superb location right in the heart of Wangfujing district. US$120 for a deluxe room
Unique Qualities: Some top end shopping outlets at the shopping arcade of the hotel. The location of the hotel is superb

The Great Wall Sheraton- 15 minutes from the Imperial Palace, this hotel offers a relatively quite environment in the city but the service is often sub-standards (especially the staff at the reception) US$115++ for a deluxe room, US$140++ for a junior suite (pictured)
Unique Qualities: There is a good selection of restaurants at the hotel and nearby. The location of the hotel outside the city centre means that you are likely to avoid the frequent traffic jams at peak hours. This hotel is also the first international 5 star hotel in Beijing. However, the furnishings of the interior and the rooms are quite new as it recently underwent a renovation.
