A visit to the capital city of Port Louis is a must.
Go to the old town, opposite the main post office and enjoy getting lost in the many little streets with the typical shops. Do visit the natural museum, the central market and China town.
It is really worth visiting.
There is also a very small museum of photography. It is run by a private person and he can use all the help he can get.
It is good to see, that all the differents communities, 23 in total live together in harmony, in this very busy, but interesting city.
Port Louis has always been of a very great importance to the Island.
It has a rather big harbor, in which all the goods are loaded and unloaded, that reach or leave the island.
Even in history, the Dutch, French and English used this harbor as a save heaven on their trips to India and Indonesia.
- Pros:the multiculturale metropool of Mauritius
- Cons:sometimes very busy and traffic jams
- In a nutshell:a place you have to visit whilst in Mauritius

I would love the photography museum, Johan. I love seeing all the old Lumiere Brothers' movies. I remember the ones they shot in Egypt in the late 19th century. Regards from Florida.
Hello Johan: Lovely little page on Port Louis. Hans and I just got home from Stayner. Had a wonderful time & thoroughly enjoyed the "Wedding". Six hour drive back home.
Wow, a solution for every problem, I should visit the Central Market too! You obviously really enjoyed Mauritius, your enthusiasm shows! Enjoy the holidays.
Hello Johan, Thank you for visiting my Buffalo page. I must admit I am not familiar with Port Louis. I suppose to the residents of Port Louis my town is equally as unheard of. Thanks for the tour...Tom
