Malacca

Malaysia is a peninsula with 11 states and 2 other states on another island. Growing up in Singapore - Malaysia was always a X'mas holiday time destination with the family .

We would do fun road trips and my memories are of rice fields, rubber plantations, pineapple farms, and gorgeous houses on stilts.

Here is just a start - Malacca. It was a road rally (illegal) from Singapore to Malacca - with a bunch of old college mates!

The two faces..the resort we stayed at...new and polished. On the other side was the Malay Village.

Malacca is old Portuguese Fort and the British were here too. They ended up picking Singapore as a better port.

There is something very distinct about Malacca is the word coinages - Peranakan and Nyonya. It is the only place where the chinese mix with malays to produce a distinct culture and foods.

The villages in Malaysia can be simple and it is community style living. Some of the villages i have been to very very clean and ornate houses, some were more lean to and could be quite dirty.

Either way - the people always very warm, generous, and open.
