"Edo" is the ancient name for Tokyo. During the reign of the Tokugawa Shoguns, Edo was the true center of power, government, and social life. Today, when you travel through the city of Tokyo, you can still catch some remnants of historical Edo meshed with the high tech world of today's Tokyo. Ancient shrines still stand next to the steel high rises of the city. You can be in the middle of the traffic and congestion of Tokyo and turn a corner to enter the ancient worlds of the old Empire.
My very first experience of Tokyo was one of true enlightenment. I accompanied a well-known artist from Japan as he traced the paths of General Oishi, Musashi Miyamoto, and the great courageous battles of the 47 Ronin.
Tokyo is rich in history. Rich in technology. You can still feel that the spirit of "Edo" still lives on in the city.
- Pros:A little of the Old World flavor still exists
- Cons:The Japanese perfect the designs of the small, compact cars for a reason!
