The Unexpected Paradise

Prior to my trip, the only thing I knew about New Caledonia was that it was a major port in WWII for the US Navy to guard the South Pacific. I only knew of this by watching "McHale's Navy" with my older brothers.

Then when invited to discover this gem of the South Pacific, I was told that New Caledonia..........according to a French traveler.........was the "most beautiful island in the South Pacific."

I was invited to visit this island with this itinerary in mind:

"For 2 weeks we will visit Noumea, the capital, which has a beautiful turquoise lagoon, then we'll fly to the Isle of Pines and spend a few nights there sailing, snorkeling, biking.........We'll take a drive in a 4 x 4 around the Southern region and then take a drive up to the East Coast and see waterfalls, and rock formations along the scenic beach."

This all sounded too good to be true.
2 weeks in New Caledonia?

I opted not to do any research on this island before I departed.

I just wanted to "follow the groove."
