From the painter's palette | We finally found the other side of Paradise |
There is an eerie solitude on this island, located in the Tuamotu region of French Polynesia, that is not found on any of the other islands we visited.
You notice it almost immediately.
There is something elementally different, something you feel and experience, but is difficult to articulate.
On this island you are forced to look inward. There are no caves to hide in, no mountains to hike, no valleys............no escape.
You soon begin to imagine that you are an insignificant speck of coral in the middle of an immense ocean.
There is only the rustle of the restless trade winds and the chorus of the crashing waves.
If someone were to ask me how I would imagine paradise to look like in the "afterlife," it would be this island.
Fakarava comes close to the picture-postcard version of what paradise should look like.
Here, you can walk along the beach without encountering another soul.

|  | The Tempest Tempts Us After 4 days of absolute perfect paradise weather, our day of departure from this island was greeted with a windy, wet storm.
We couldn't help but wonder......were the gods trying to tell us not to leave? |
