Mojitos, mojitos, and MORE mojitos! - San Francisco

Mojitos, mojitos, and MORE mojitos!

Habana Cuba Restaurant and Bar: Cuuuuuuubaaaaahhh! Habana Cuba Restaurant and Bar Review

For a taste of "old school" Cuba, Habana Cuba serves an array of Cuban delicacies with an ambience that evoke nuances of the late '40s Havana.

Once you step inside the restaurant, you are taken back to a time when Cuba was the "tourist playground" and the haven for brooding artists and suave mobsters.

The menu mixes in traditional Cuban flavors with a touch of Caribbean.........and of course infused with a modern flair.

Ceviche with scallops, pineapple, and lime juice and entrees such as skirt steak with chimchurri sauce is just a sample of what to choose from.

The full bar offers a special drink menu and features the all-time favorite Cuban cocktail: MOJITO!

They ran a regular mojito factory there..........you can tell this was the restaurant's most popular drink!

Favorite Dish: Everything we sampled on the menu was scrumptious!

(Beware of the mojitos though: They'll have you belting out "BABALOO" after just 2 servings!)

Is that NEPHRITE JADE I see? - San Francisco

Is that NEPHRITE JADE I see?

Foreign Cinema: A Taste of Surrealism Foreign Cinema Review

"Let us not mince words: the marvelous is always beautiful. anything marvelous is beautiful, in fact only the marvelous is beautiful. " (Andre Breton, in the Manifesto of Surrealism, 1924)

I love surprises. A renowned member of this VT community, GUANTANAMERA (aka Paul), paid a visit to SF en route to a 5 week journey through Asia.

This was Paul's first time in San Francisco. If any of you have had the pleasure of making his acquaintance, you will know that he is a man of many layers.......one who has a different insight on human nature. If you study his travel pages, you can understand this statement.

Paul's visit needed to be unique. Full of a different sort of "sightseeing." To start off his 2 day tour, I took Paul to visit FOREIGN CINEMA restaurant in the Mission District of San Francisco.

Foreign Cinema combines fine dining with a cinematic journey through classic films, old and new.

That evening, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was playing. How appropo ! It added to the very surrealistic atmosphere that was to follow that weekend.........

Johnny suddenly became fluent in Moroccan! - San Francisco

Johnny suddenly became fluent in Moroccan!

Aziza: Fashizzle Yo Nizzle......MOROCCAN Style! Azizi Review

As a second part to the Welcome Home Party for our friend, Johnny_CA, fellow VTer, Bond_Girl and I took Johnny to AZIZA on Geary St.

Our experience at Aziza was memorable. We loved everything about it: The atmosphere, the food, the cocktails, the service..........everything was well-prepared and served with professional grace and warmth.

The three of us ordered the "Tasting Menu." It's $39 per person and is a huge feast fit for a Moroccan King. (or even an Agent Pimpy!)

The Tasting menu consisted of soup, a plate of delicious Mediterranean spreads and veggies, the ever-popular BASTILLA (a phyllo pastry filled with minced braised saffron chicken, spiced almonds, and powdered sugar), an entree and dessert!

We were in awe at the presentation and the delicious spices!

Favorite Dish: The 3 entrees they served was recommended by the Chef. They included a braised lamb shank with honey and kumquat sauce, caramalezied dried fruits, roasted almonds and cous cous. There was also a roasted chicken stuffed with saffron and spices, and a spicy sea bass dish.

Our dear Johnny was delighted as you can see !

Hilmi: Caught on VT! - San Francisco

Hilmi: Caught on VT!

Welcome Hilmi !! Straits Cafe Review

Yubert's good friend, Hilmi, joins us during dinner. A bit camera-shy.....or perhaps a bit VT shy??.... We finally convince Hilmi to pose for the cameras with his dessert.

Just think, Hilmi, your lovely Turkish smile will be seen by hundreds of thousands of curious folks around the world!!!!

When we talked of Yubert's *virtual* mis-behavin' here on VT, Hilmi adds this, "Yep! I'm not surprised!"

Yubert is not a myth, folks.....he is REAL!
