During my visit to Italy in February 2002, my friends and I were trying to decide on a side trip that was close to Venice, our main destination. None of us had ever been to Bologna so we decided to see what it was like there. I had no information on this city at all, so when I started doing the research, the main two items that kept coming up about Bologna was the Universities and the food. It was an easy trek to Bologna from Venice. Only around 1hour via rail. Bologna is known as the "gastronomical capital" of Italy...just as Lyon is for France. This seemed worth checking out! Once we arrived and spent our one night in this city, we were not disappointed. Not only was the food excellent....but we found the shopping there was incredible as well! The shops and boutiques near the University were bargain-hunting fortresses. This is where we learned the most important word in Italian: "Saldi!" (SALE) |
