The French Riviera is probably one of my favorite spots in Europe. I'm a big fan of the old classic "Hollywood Glamour" movies and every Grace Kelly/Cary Grant movie I watched always had the gorgeous Riviera backdrop. Nice is a charming city along the Cote D'Azur. There are great beaches and, unlike its neighboring cities like Monaco, Monte Carlo, and Cannes, it actually has affordable accomodations!
My favorite time of year to visit Nice and the French Riviera is springtime. Particularly May when everything seems to go on during that time of year. The World Music Awards in Monte Carlo, the Festival du Film in Cannes, and the Monaco Grand Prix.....just to name a few.
This is the time of year where you can hob nob with the European Royalty, the jetsetters, the movers and shakers, and the wannabes! Or just the "gawkers" (like me!)
The central train station in Nice can take you everywhere up and down the coastline. 20 minutes you're in Cannes. 2 hours and you're in Marseilles!
When you want to see the sights of the French Riviera, I would recommend Nice as your central starting point. |
| 6am. La Croisette in Cannes. What's a girl to do? |
| | Nice is nice, but if you can...go to CANNES! Just a 30 minute train ride away is the city of Cannes.......sister-city to Beverly Hills........swimming pools, movie stars, FRENCH RIVIERA STYLE!!!
Cannes is everything you see portrayed in the movies....and more.
The Jet-Set crowd is in abundance....the tycoon yachts.....the over-priced hotel suites.
I had been to Cannes several times before. Those were mostly sightseeing excursions where I was living out my childhood dream to party like Princess Grace and rub shoulders with the chic crowd.
This last trip was a dose of reality.........this time I lived out my ADULT dream to party like Princess Grace and rub shoulders with the chic crowd.
Here I am "rubbing shoulders.." A Spanish model from Milan and a Norwegian Decathelete.
Rub-a-dub-dub, baby.

(you!) ;-) | Annapet Wed Nov 17, 2004 08:56 UTC Just in case friends are wondering what ZIPLOC bags we're talking about...the QUART size with Freeze Guard seal, of course and not the GALLON size. Tee-hee...Good for one serving =))) | Norali Thu Nov 11, 2004 20:10 UTC Hasn't given me that effect. Maybe because the current landscape has disconnected me from my imagination of the Toulouse era. I saw in Moulin Rouge a windmill that was dropped by a helicopter on this place. Maybe I should enter to really experience it ? | sand.storm Sat Oct 16, 2004 02:17 UTC you crack me UP Geisha Girl. We are very much alike...I too dream of going to places to SAINT-TROPEZ and CANNEs and rub shoulders with super-sexy-hot rich people, just to see what it's like...and more to gawk at their CLOTHES and SHOEs |
