La Vie en Rose in Paris!

by Geisha_Girl - last update: May 10, 2005

Paris Reinvented!

Dancing to Mitterand's MADNESS
Tu me fais tourner la tête
Mon manège à moi, c'est toi
Je suis toujours à la fête
Quand tu me tiens dans tes bras

Je ferais le tour du monde
Ça ne tournerait pas plus que ça
La terre n'est pas assez ronde
Pour m'étourdir autant que toi...

Ah!

Car...
Tu me fais tourner la tête
Mon manège à moi, c'est toi
Je suis toujours à la fête
Quand tu me tiens dans tes bras

Je ferais le tour du monde
Ça ne tournerait pas plus que ça
La terre n'est pas assez ronde...
Mon manège à moi, c'est toi!
I have had a lifetime Love Affair with this city!
Allan Ginsberg had a great description of Paris when he said , “You can't escape the past in Paris, and yet what's so wonderful about it is that the past and present intermingle so intangibly that it doesn't seem to burden.”

Everytime I visit this amazing city, I fall in love with it all over again. What is it about Paris that I love so much? It's the fact that you're surrounded by so much beauty in the architecture, the landscapes, the arts......you can never get tired of looking at Paris!

You can take part in the hustle and bustle of the crowds, the traffic, but still find a little corner of the city to call your own. Take a stroll through the Jardin du Luxumbourg on a Sunday afternoon and you will know exactly what I'm talking about! Take a cafe creme at a brasserie in Le Quartier Latin and people watch for hours......that's the best way to soak up the local culture.

I have truly been infatuated with this city since I was a little girl. For those who have followed along on my other travel stories, you would know that I had a lot of my travel influence from books I read and movies I watched as a young girl. Being a little Asian girl growing up in a diverse community on a California Navy Base left me a lot of room for imagination. I had a heightened imagination filled with dreams of world travels. The Barbie dolls I played with in the backyard weren’t playing “dress-up” or having a tea party with the other dolls…..my Barbies were hopping on the Barbie Jet and landing in Paris to walk along the Champs Elysees just like Audrey Hepburn did in “Sabrina.”
Malibu Barbie got her tan from sitting at the outdoor Parisian cafes in the hot summer sun. I learned French in the 4th grade. While my friends had posters and crushes on teen heartthrobs like Shaun Cassidy and Rick Springfield, I had pics of Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo to swoon over.

The first time I stepped on Parisian soil, my pulse rate quickened and my skin was full of goose bumps. The first time I heard a street musician play “La Vie en Rose” while I was in Paris…..forget about it…….I was a lost cause.

During my darkest days at home, I think back to a place where I would rather be that made me the happiest. Paris is always the first choice. I’ve been back there almost every year. God-willing, perhaps someday I’ll pack up the bulldog and the Geisha House and move into a walk up on the Ile St. Louis. That is my dream.

Je t'aime Paris and all of its culture and diversity.
