The Waldorf Astoria, part of the Hilton Hotels. I've never stayed here but be prepared to pay in excess of $200 USD per night. I have toured the lobby as well as enjoyed their banquet room. My company has their Christmas party here every year. The hotel staff is very corteous and professional and the place is kept in an exceptionally clean state. At some point, I will stay here, but at the time of this update, I am living a few minutes away, it doesn't make sense.
Unique Qualities: This is one of the most acclaimed hotels in New York. It's featured in the movie, 'Coming to America.' Please note that this picture is off of their website.

I stayed at the Marriott Marquis during May of 2003. The rooms were quite standard issue for Marriott, which translates to superior comfort and cleanliness. It is conveniently located at Times Square which means the rest of the city is accessible from this point via subway, via cab, or via foot. From the outside and the inside, it looks fabulous. If you have the money, be sure to stay!
Unique Qualities: It's location is hard to beat in New York but very expensive! Also the rotating restaurant at the top is very nice.

The New York Marriott Financial Center Hotel offers a traveler a great place to stay if you wish to stay downtown offering impeccable service. Before September 11th, this hotel was located at the World Trade Center site. After the disaster, it relocated two blocks down on West Street. We were lucky to get a room with a view of the Hudson river. Be sure to ask for one as every room in the picture faces the river so they have plenty! The uppermost floors have views of the Statue of Liberty!
Unique Qualities: The New York Marriott Financial Center hotel has 500 richly appointed rooms and is located minutes away from Wall Street and the Statue of Liberty. The hotel is contemporary with a refined flair.

I spent one night at the Marriott Eastside in January of 2005. It was a Sunday, I had a Dodgeball game in the city at 9pm and at the time, I lived in Highland Park, which was a good ride away by train. Having to go to work the next morning, I decided to get a room at this hotel and finally check it out. Like all Marriotts, we left well rested and extremely pleased. The room was immaculate and the bed ever so comfortable! Definitely worth visiting if its in your budget. I used my corporate discount to get a good rate.
Unique Qualities: Ask for a room on a high floor. If you're high enough, and you have a north-facing window, the view is great!

Thanks for sharing. Happy travels! | cindy3 Sat Jul 7, 2007 06:36 UTC I expected to see african american employees at this "Soul Food" restaurant. But, to my surprise they were mostly hispanic. I guess Amy Ruth's doesn't have as much soul as I thought. | Maurizioago Tue Mar 20, 2007 18:09 UTC Good page. Ciao! |
