Attersee Travel Guide: 10 reviews and 43 photos

Attersee is the largest lake within the borders of Austria. It is approximately 12 by 2 miles (20 by 3 km). Not only is it the largest, but it is also one of the most beautiful lakes in Austria. The town of Attersee, located right on the lake, is very small and has a church up on a hill (Gaberg) that provides an excellent view of the lake and surrounding scenery. This by all means does not mean it's the only place to get a great view of the lake! Schafberg also provides an excellent view of the lake.

Attersee is also surrounded by many villas around the lake. Some of these estates are quite impressive and even have their own boat houses. My wife's grandmother worked for one of these villas at one point. If only my wife's family owned one of these villas!

The lake is encircled by a succession of picturesque villages ideal for holidaymaking. These include the villages of Unterach, Nussdorf, Attersee, Seewalchen, Kammer, Weyregg, Steinbach, and Weissenbach. Most have camp sites, sailing and windsurfing schools and boat rentals.

This page will serve as both my Attersee (the lake) page and my Attersee (the town) page.

My pictures are limited right now, but I will come back with more.

A beautiful lake , indeed. I had the good fortune to be swimming in it and hiking in some of the surrounding mountains some 40 years ago.

Drinkable water in a lake? Are you sure, hehe? Very good sports tip!
