Getting TO/AROUND: When flying to Tasmania, you'll have to options as far as destinations go. You can either fly to Hobart of Launceston. I've never been to the latter, but our flight to Hobart was excellent. The views of Tasmania from the plane were wonderful. Considering we sat on the left side of the plane that allowed us to see the eastern coast of Tasmania as we flew south. One of the treats was Freycinet National Park and Oyster bay, the bay it sits on.

Hobart Airport is very small, but both of Australia's largest domestic carriers (Qantas and Virgin Blue) will get you there affordably. We flew Qantas and were very pleased! It's impossible to get lost in this small airport and the rental car counters are right at the terminal. Lastly, the airport is just a quick drive from Hobart itself.

Getting TO/AROUND: In order to see the many wonders of Tasmania, I highly recommend renting a car. I was a bit nervous of doing this as it would be the first time I drive on the 'British' side of the road. Fortunately, I mastered it without out a problem. Even when turning! I had to focus more than I ever do when driving, but I did it!

The rental rates weren't bad at all. We went with Hertz which was a little higher than some of the others, but not by much.

Be warned, that some of the roads in Tasmania wind back and forth until no end and this can get quite tiresome for someone not accustomed to driving on their side of the road. Make sure you take the insurance just in case. Our guide bood recommended it highly. They're reputedly the hardest roads to navigate in Australia.

Getting TO/AROUND: If you're looking to book some guided tours in and around Hobart (including to other parts of Tasmania), you can walk over to the piers and there are at least two tour companies operating from there. They have boat tours and bus tours. If you're one to prefer those types of tours, this is the place to go. It's right on the waterfront.
