Off The Beaten Path: The Sauerland:
A hilly area...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Sauerland:
A hilly area about 100km east of Cologne and unfortuanately completly missed but many travellers, especially from overseas. Summer is great for walking, hiking, biking or watersports at numerous lakes. Their are great centers like Cologne or the busy sprawl of the Ruhrgebiet very near, but it's rural life and great scenery what it's all about here. A quieter part of Germany where you get the chance of seeing the country without running into thousands of other tourists.

The picture shows the Oester Lake in my hometown. Good swimming spot, though the 'beach' is a bit steep an stony.
