This must be one of the Most Amazing Places in Greece! :)
The monasteries perched on top of those enormous rocks really impressed us.
The area was originally settled by monks who lived in caves carved within the rocks during the 11th century, but in the fear of Turks they climbed up higher and higher until they reached the peaks where it was safe.
We took quite a "job" to visit Meteora as a day-trip from Athens and it sure was a long day and a whole lot of sitting in the car, but it also was worth it. But if you can, don't visit it like we did, use more time.
