Pelabuhan Ratu is 171 km from Jakarta. The name Pelabuhan ratu (Queen's Harbour) is taken from a local legend about a princess who was once being exiled because she suffered from a strange disease with the body covered cabbies that created the odor of fish. In her exhile she dreamt that her disease would disappear if she leaped into the sea. After she woke up then she obeyed the dream and leaped into the see and all of a sudden her disease disappear and her beauty restored. The princess prefered to stay on the sea and was widely known as Queen of The South. The beach where she stayed was later known as Pelabuhan Ratu or Queen's Harbour
Fishing is the main activity of the local community here. They go fishing at night and come back in the morning with captured fish to be sold in the Fish Market. There are variety of fish can be found in the market. If you're lucky and get up early enough to go the market, you can even see a whole hammerhead shark or 2 meter Marlin. I went there too late and just found ordinary fish and the Marlins were already cut into pieces.
Apart from being well known of its ocean, Pelabuhan Ratu also a place where padi (from which the rice come) are planted. The padi fields and sea can be found along the road side by side.
- Pros:padi field and sea in one place, seafood,
- Cons:not many facilities
- In a nutshell:quiet and refreshing
