"Lower Rio Grand Valley" Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park by kyoub

Birding in the valley

Bentsen State Park is the hub of Valley birding. The park has an array of Mexican subtropical birds which reach the limit of their range here just across the river. There are some very special permanent residents here year around also. The best thing about this park is, you never know what you might see around each bend in the road. The park is full of surprises.

Mesquite

Vegetation is a thick tangle of vines and thorny scrub dominated by mesquite and prickly pear cactus.Camping birders usually stay at this park. The park checklist shows that 296 species of birds have been sighted here. Most of the birds can best be observed along the.8-mile loop road

Overlook

Freshwater waders, numerous waterfowl and raptors, terns, blackbirds, and many other species can be seen flying overhead enroute to feeding sites up and down the valley. The Resaca Overlook is a great place to start your birding day.

Well, I cannot say that I think the "Turkey Vulture" is a beauty in the bird kingdom, but it looks interesting to observe.
