Hawaii Volcanos National Park is located on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is a 45 minute drive there from Hilo and around 2 1/2 hrs from Kona.
The park is open 24 hrs a day, seven days a week. The cost per vehicle is $10 which includes all passengers. It is an easy drive on a good paved road.
Allow at least 2 hrs to drive around the 11 mile, Chain of Lakes road. |
| | Lava flow If you have more time it is well worth the extra few hours to drive to see the lava flow. It is near the coast and is another 20 mile drive. Once you arrive you will park your car and get out and walk. Conditions change daily. At times you can get a glimpse of the red hot lava dripping over into the sea below. |

Enjoyed your tips, Kay. | toonsarah Tue Nov 27, 2007 20:28 UTC A really interesting page, and a different side to Hawaii to the sun, sea & sand images. The lava tube intrigued me as did the offerings to Pele | scottishvisitor Tue Nov 13, 2007 21:14 UTC Kay great looking page on an unusual place - the volcanic soil must be very fertile - the trees seem to like it too! |
