When Columbus discovered Tobago, he called it Bellaforma. The island has changed hands many times since then. The Dutch had it - the French claimed it - the Kings of Poland and Sweden wanted it - The British captured it - an American squadron tried to take it - ceded to France - recaptured by the British now, united with Trinidad...
Tobago is a delightfully relaxed island with excellent birdwatching and nature. This is a picture of a Copper-rumped Hummingbird. It was taken in the gardens at the Blue Waters Inn near Speyside.
These little birds are a common resident of Trinidad and Tobago.
In Tobago they are called "Bluebirds". The real name is Blue-grey Tanager.
A restless, noisy and excitable species, usually found in pairs.
They are not shy of humans and breed in gardens and near houses.
- Pros:Nature abounds
- Cons:Locals trying to sell you something
- In a nutshell:A birders dream come true

Kay, Trinidad & Tobago sounds like a birders paradise (and for bats too)! Great tips on the variety of accomodations and restaurants you tried on the islands. I had to laugh at your Warnings littering sign tip!
Loved the Miss Jeans Restaurant. The Cotton House sounds wonderful. All the Bays you visited are magnificent. Pumpkin Soup sounds yummy! Beautiful sculptures. Great tips on hotels. Terrific place for birding, Kay.
Great tips! I love goat!
Great coverage. Fantastic secluded beaches, wildlife, great scenery and the world's finest carnival make me want to visit these islands now.
nice page...i'd love to go and experience it all myself...someday, someday:)thanks
Great pictures of the bats! Sounds like a lovely place to go!
Another awesome destination Kay. Trinidad and Tobago is definitely exotic. Wonderful bird photos.
Sounds like just the place i would like to be right now instead of cuddling the radiator like im doing now LOL
that is a really exotic place, one that I hardly ever will be able to visit, so a virtual tour with the help of your pics and tips at least somehow made up for what I shall miss ... $1 fine or 6 months imprisonment, now that IS a difficult choice!
Great page Kay! Like the photo you captured of your driver drinking & the cremation. Sounds a wonderful destination, (~_~)
