Cruz Bay

I read somewhere that St John is likened to a dazzling emerald in a setting of sparkling sapphire water. That is closer to describing the island than I ever could.
The only way to get to St. John is by boat, either ferry or yacht.
We came over on a ferry from the British Virgin Islands for a day trip.
At Cruz Bay, the main town on St John, friends and taxi drivers are waiting, clogging the exit from the pier. Ferry boat arrivals are the big event of the day here.
We had several offers of a tour by the taxi drivers. Finally we agreed to go with one on a two hour around the island tour. It was open air seating in the back of his tourist type truck. The padded seats were on each side and there was a canopy overhead. We stopped for a photo shot of one beautiful bay after the other on the north coast plus the ruins of Annaberg sugar plantation.
Everything was wonderful until it started to rain very very hard. At that time we chose to be dropped of at the shops so we could spend some time looking around for trinkets.

The picture you list as Caneel Bay is actually Trunk Bay. Trunk Bay is the only public beach where you will find a lifeguard on duty. Hawksnest does not have a lifeguard.

St. John certainly has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world! Too bad it's so expensive to stay on the island unless you camp.

I didn't know termits put up their nests on trees. The place looks good for hiking with beautiful views and for diving.
