  • It was our anniversary when we stayed here. They gave us an upgrade to a suite. We got a fruit plate everyday and orchids.
The service here was exceptional and the food was very good.

Unique Qualities: It was a short walk to the beach from our cottage.
They had a nice pool area but the pool was not working when we were there.
Our cottage had a side stairs where we could go up to the rooftop terrace to stargaze or have a cocktail on the roof.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Dolphin Bay Resort very much. We came to stay three nights and didn't leave for a week and then only because it was time to come back to the states. It is in an ideal location for birdwatching. The park being 4-5 km. to the south, the freshwater marsh 15 km.to the north, and the long beach right there.

Unique Qualities: The owners of this resort are very friendly and helpful.
There is a nice pool and a great swimming beach across the road.
The sunrise is worth getting up early to see, coming up over the mountain.
It is just a few miles to Khoa Sam Roi Yat National Park

  • Transportation was furnished from our Bangkok hotel in an air-conditioned minibus to the edge of Khao Yai National Park. Quiet and comfortable en-suite double rooms, at the Garden Lodge. Varieties of local flora and fauna and a tropical garden, where you can see over 200 different speciies of botanical and some rare hybrid orchids. There are always birds and butterflies flying through the garden.

Unique Qualities: They have organised tours that take you to different areas of the park everyday. Most last most of the day. The guides are very knowledgable and personable.
The restaurant serves very good meals.

    Seaview Guesthouse: Near the beach

  • Hua Hins's dozen plus guesthouses are on a street one block from the beach.
We stayed at the one at the end nearest the beach. It was called Seaview Guesthouse. We had a large livingroom, and a large bedroom, bath with shower, and a small balcony.
It was very clean and good service.

Unique Qualities: Near the beach and shopping.
They arranged a taxi and driver to pick us up at our hotel in Bangkok.

  • Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa is located on the west bank of the Chao Praya River. Accessible to the east side of the river via the Bangkok Bridge or the resort's ferry. Within its complex are fine shops and restaurants.
We had a nice room with bath and a balcony with views of the pool and river.

The river cruise on the old rice barge sounded wonderful--your ride atop the elephant must have been exciting, too--you sure can't do that in Texas!

A great overview. You seem to have stayed in some lovely places. I'd enjoy a ride on an elephant & the canal boat trip, and I like the photo of the bee eater especially

Temples, birds and boat ride up Khao Daeng Canal through mangrove swamps full of birds, and monkeys sound very attractive to me. Enjoyable local custom tip + picture :-)

I'll have my own Thailand tips soon. Going to Bangkok and Chiang Mai in September : )))
