  • We had a suite on the 8th floor. Rooms were spaceous and the view from the large windows, priceless.

Unique Qualities: We could sit in our living room and look out over the South China Sea.
There was an International buffet in the dining room that was "out of this world".

Gayana Eco Resort: Over the water bungalows
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Sitting out over the water on stilts were thatched roofed bungalows , a restaurant, & office/gift shop .This resort was a short ferry ride from the pier in Kota Kinabalu.

Unique Qualities: There was a natural pool that was like swinning in the ocean but a screen kept the large fish out.
I loved looking over the balcony and seeing the fish swimming by. The water was so clear you could see the bottom, there were spiny sea urchins there. We also saw a monitor lizard taking his morning swim.

Royal Mulu Resort: In the rainforest
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Royal Mulu Resort sets in the heart of the Sarawak jungle. The resort is situated on the Melinau River adjacent to the Mulu National Park, home to the worlds famous Mulu Caves. A boardwalk is built on stilts to connect all of the buildings.Expect rain because after all it is in the rainforest.

RIHGA Miri Resort and Spa: #1 in my book of memories
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The RIHGA Resort and Spa is now a Marriott. It is located on the Brighton beach facing the South China Sea. The hotel is surrounded by 20 acres of well kept gardens with beautiful blooming plants and many trees for shade. It is a short taxi ride to the airport or into Miri town from here.

Unique Qualities: I liked everything about this resort. It has a very nice pool. The view from the lobby out over the pool and sea is breathtaking. The rooms are fresh looking and very comfortable. The staff go out of their way to make sure that you enjoy your stay .

Sheraton Labuan: The suite was a special treat
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Labuan is an island located just 8km off the coast of Sabah. We flew there to catch a boat to Brunei. As luck would have it, we got there over a week-end when hotel rooms are fairly empty and they have some great special prices. We booked a suite on the top floor of the Sheraton Labuan for far less than most hotel rooms. It was a wonderful experience for us.

Unique Qualities: We had a great view out over the sea and the city from our balcony. There was a nice pool.
Most of all the food was exceptional. I would recommend this hotel for sure.

Paradise Sandy Bay: Apartment size suites
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Paradise Sandy Bay Hotel is ideally situated on the white sandy beach at Tanjung Bungah and close to the capital Georgetown which is just 10 minutes drive away. The accommodation is apartment style all rooms have private balconies and kitchenette facilities .

Unique Qualities: Our apartment was huge. Ample closet space to stay for a very long time. Great view out over the water. Food was quite good and buffets were available for the Asia and American tastes. This made both of us happy since my hubby likes an Asian breakfast and I prefer an American breakfast.

AWANA PORTO MALAI LANGKAWI: See the sunrise
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We love staying at the AWANA PORTO MALAI LANGKAWI. The thing I enjoy the most is getting up and going out on our balcony to see the sun rising up behind some other islands. It is like a movie with every second a different frame. Awana Porto Malai is on the southwestern tip of Langkawi. Every room has a small kittchenette with a coffee pot, microwave oven, and a sink.

Unique Qualities: There is no pool but be sure and ask for a sea view room. Just make sure it isn't near the bar or the band will keep you awake all night. There is an island nearby where they will take you for free that has a very nice beach.

  • A driver, courtesy of the hotel, picked us up at the airport and took us to the Condcorde Shah Alam in a mercedes. We arrived late at night and we were very tired so it was very appreciated.
Our room had a great view of the Blue Mosque and the busy street below from our window.
The Concorde Shah Alam is also near to the Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Agricultural Park and other tourist attractions.

De Palma Inn: Close to the nature park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We chose to stay at De Palma Inn because it was a short drive from there to the nature park.
We had one side of a small cabin which consisted of a bed a couple of chairs, TV, small fridg, and a bathroom with a shower.

Unique Qualities: Service was not great and the breakfast was even worse. It was included with the room but after the first day we didn't even bother to show up.

Renaissance Hotel: Within the golden triangle
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • For our few days stay in Kuala Lumpur we chose to stay at the Renaissance Hotel because it was within walking distance of what we wanted to see. It is a very large hotel, so large it has two wings. Our room was on the 14th floor of the new world wing. It was a large room with a queensize bed, sofa, and chair. There was even a bouquet of fresh tropical flowers on the table when we arrived.

Unique Qualities: We had a very nice view of the large pool out of our window.
The food was what we remember most though. The buffet breakfast and dinner were fantastic. It was like two buffets also, one Asian and the other international. It was plentiful and very good.
