Sea lions

Traveling along the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia bay , you will soon come to Isla de los Lobos, home of the southern sea lion.
The males are huge and have many scars from fighting for their harem.
We saw several babies with their mothers.

Another tour

We can't get enough of the wildlife in the channel so we booked another boat tour.
This time we went out on the Barracuda.
It is a part of the history of Tierra del Fuego, because it was the first tourist ship in the Beagle Channel back in 1975.
It has new engines but it still has a classy style.
We saw the cormorant and sea lion colonies, the surrounding mountains, and a variety of seabirds.
We also saw Les Eclaireus Lighthouse, where we learned the tragic story of a ship wreck which happened here in 1900.
On the way back we sat in the dining room and drank hot chocolate, chatting with a couple from Ohio.

Penguins

If you can't get enough of those cute penguins be sure to go on the extended tour out to the penguin colony.
This is a smaller group of Magellanic penguins but a few of the Gentoo penguins have arrived there now also.
You can tell them by their orange bills and they are acouple of inches taller.

Boat Tour

Take a boat trip to the Beagle Channel wildlife sights.
These excursions are mostly for 2 1/2 hours on oversized catamarans. Stopping at Isla de los Lobos, home of the southern sea lion, and Isla de Pajaros, a nesting sight for seabirds
We wanted to see the Penguins and Estancia Harberton plus the wildlife islands so we went with Tolkeyen on their 9 hr tour.

Exhilarating views

What ever you do, especially if you are lucky enough to have a beautiful day, take the chair lift up to Cerro Martial.
It is a scenic drive behind the town. From the top of the lift you have views of the city and the Beagle Channel. You can walk from there some distance to see the Glaciar Martial.
This is the area where they ski in the winter months.
