Brunei is located north-west corner of the island of Borneo. It has a land border with the Malaysian state of Sarawak and a coastline along the shore of the South China Sea, encompassing a total area of 5,765 square kilometres. The main resourses are oil and gas. Oil was first discovered in Seria in 1929, and commercial production began in 1932. |
| | Oil Seria is where Shell Brunei has its major installations and is home to the people that protect them. You will see hundreds of houses where company staff live. At the beach, just outside of town is the Billionth Barrel Monument commemorating the billionth barrel of oil produced at Seria field.
The approach to the monument is through an arched entrance and between two straight rows of trees. The arches serve to remind visitors that Brunei is an Islamic environment, and the floor is made up of tiles laid in an Islamic pattern.
This is a closer photo of the top of the monument. |

Always rely on you, Kay, for unusual, interesting tips and fascinating photos. | Nemorino Sat Jan 10, 2009 22:09 UTC This really does look like a unique place to visit! | adnan1977 Fri Jan 9, 2009 14:16 UTC The picture given is not Omar Ali saifudden mosque. It is Jame' Asri Hassanal Bolkiah mosque. It is located in Kampong Kiarong. | toonsarah Fri Jan 18, 2008 20:28 UTC Another interesting page Kay. That Indian restaurant sounds good, but I'm surprised you gave the hotel as many as two satisfaction marks ;) By the way, "jumper" in the UK is a sweater so I was puzzled for a while until I mentally translated :)) |
