Klungkung

The new name is Semarapura but most people still call it Klungkung.
It is the district capitol and an important trading point on the road to east Bali.
The most important historicial sights there is a pair of pavillions set in an ornamental moat, known as Taman Gili.
We stopped here on a tour of the east side of Bali while staying at the Blue Moon in Selang.
We thought the former palace was quite interesting. It would have been nice to have a guide to explain what we were seeing but there was not another person there, as we walked around the area.

It seems you had a good look at these interesting royal attractions from long-bygone days! The Puputan Monument was so interesting I had to check it out on Google!

I've never seen anything like the Moated Garden before...it looks like it would be a serene spot in which to reflect.

200 members of the Klungkung royal court commited ritual suicide? It sounds scarry. I like the Floating Pavillon photo.

Do you know why the Klungkung royal court killed themselves? Sounds like there is a fascinating history to this place. Lovely photos Kay, very interesting (~_~)
