Favorite Thing: Although their political dominance has been consigned to the history books, Afrikaaners are very proud of their culture and heritage. They believe that they have a deeper commitment to Africa than 'English' South Africans, hence they love to describe themselves as 'The white tribe of Africa' and point out that Afrikaans is the only 'European' language to develop outside Europe. With all this in mind, it is very bad manners to suggest to them that their culture and language are still rooted in Holland...
