Cricket: The most beautiful Cricket ground in the world?

Adelaide Oval is possibly the most beautiful ground to stage international cricket, a neat and elegant ground with trees at the northern end and the cathedral beyond, the Adelaide Hills in the distance and a setting in parkland near the Torrens river. The ground is well organised with excellent viewing and good facilities. The scoreboard dates from 1911 and is the oldest in use in international cricket. Win or lose, any visit here is memorable.

Equipment: Don't forget the sun cream and hat!

Those who don't know the sport of Cricket may know little about "Bodyline", the notorious bowling tactics used by the English Tourists to beat Australia in the 1932-33 season. Even now people remember and reflect on the controversy. At the heart of it was the England captain Douglas Jardine, whose unbending will helped him persist with the tactic against all criticism. It was at Adelaide that matters came to a head when a couple of Australians were injured, and a riot nearly ensued. For a time the tour was in danger of cancellation and the friendly relations between Australia and Britain were under threat.

Thus as an English visitor it was important to be diplomatic and apolagetic about it all - as the pin-up girls holding my flag show.

Equipment: Bring something tactfully commemorative to demonstrate what any truly sporting Englishman feels about his national captain using such rough tactics on those nice Australians.

Oh I thought Adelaide was great... I wasn't expecting a fast pace. but it was the BEST place to relax and enjoy a bit of luxurious downtime.

Why single Adelaide out for having endless suburbs of single story homes? The attractions are there if you know where to look.

Gees you make it sound like the end of the earth - FYI most people here in Australia live in single story homes, and we don't refer to them as bungalows!

I agree...Adelaide doesn't have a lot to offer the tourist but it's still a nice place...
