Theme: Sports Watching
Those who don't know the sport of Cricket may know little about "Bodyline", the notorious bowling tactics used by the English Tourists to beat Australia in the 1932-33 season. Even now people remember and reflect on the controversy. At the heart of it was the England captain Douglas Jardine, whose unbending will helped him persist with the tactic against all criticism. It was at Adelaide that matters came to a head when a couple of Australians were injured, and a riot nearly ensued. For a time the tour was in danger of cancellation and the friendly relations between Australia and Britain were under threat.
Thus as an English visitor it was important to be diplomatic and apolagetic about it all - as the pin-up girls holding my flag show.
Equipment: Bring something tactfully commemorative to demonstrate what any truly sporting Englishman feels about his national captain using such rough tactics on those nice Australians.
