Porto Alegre is a port city of over 1million people in the most southern Brasilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.
It is a very modern city and at times reminds of San Francisco, CA because of the hills.
People work very hard, this is not another Carioca city. Mixed ancestry of Portuguese, German, African, and Japanese gives it a different feel.
You are very much in the heart of Gaucho country ... meat is king and the Caiprinhas and Caiproscas flow.
This is not a typical tourist city, but there is a beauty to the city and it's parks. |
|  | Parks Porto Alegre has a number of beautiful parks. The best is Moinhos do Vento (Windmill). It is large and is a beutiful residential area across the street from many restaurants, bars, discos and a mall. And yes it does have a windmill! |
| | Gasometro The symbol of Porto Alegre is the old power station ... the Gasometro, that sits at the edge of the Guaiba river (actually a bay). It is a stunning site at sunset. |

I went to porto alegre too.I liked it so much.Moinhos de vento neghbourhood is so nice and pleasent with many bistros, bar and big houses.I will proablably going back there some day!you should too. |
