21st March, and the kind of day many visitors possibly do not believe exists for Edinburgh. Clear skies, a warm sun - t-shirt weather already! (even a few people in shorts). At lunchtime, many people on the benches or lazing in the grass in Princes Street Gardens, facing the Old Town and of course the Castle opposite. As you stroll along, you can smell the daffodils. On days like this Edinburgh seems about the best place you could possibly be. |
| | After Lunch Strolling down from Bruntsfield (see restaurant entry) across Bruntsfield Links to Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op. The beer patios of the adjacent hotels have many enjoying the unseasonal weather. Off down towards The Meadows and into the Golf Tavern (est. 1456?) for a pint of Edinburghs IPA. Sit in the window seat and view life across the Meadows, with Arthurs Seat a spectacular backdrop. Links and Meadows showing the city at play: rugby, frisbees, water shooters, kites, cricket and several games of football. And in the tradition of the old times, some golf (now illegally) being practised. Beer finished, across the Meadows, past the Museum of Scotland, to the Royal Mile. One visit to the estimable Fopp and a cheap Mogwai CD later, along the Grassmarket and West Bow to the Filmhouse. And the sun still shining. |

For the Capital's serious (if sometimes infuriatingly bourgeois) newspaper, see www.scotsman.com.
The more observant may notice that the pictures date from around fourteen months after the introduction, as I did not have a camera with me the time before. Certainly not because this is the length of time between sunny days in Edinburgh.
