Upstairs in a city street in El Raval, Gat Raval is a non traditional hostal. I saw it described elsewhere as a hostal for hostellers who are now older (30-something?) and want some comforts, and thats as good a description as any. Near MACBA, about 5 minutes walk from Las Ramblas. I had a compact single room with TV and sink for around 30E (though now more). Doubles and ensuite available also. Kept clean and plenty bath/shower/toilet rooms. My room overlooked the internal courtyard, which meant a bit of noise from the childrens nursery downstairs. There was also a small balcony you could sit outside on.
Unique Qualities: Brightly painted in green and white - ideal for Celtic fans.

Directions: Nearest metro Universitat. From Ramblas go along C/ Pintor Fortuny and can then cut through past MACBA. I managed to walk past it twice as the doorway is very unassuming - look upwards for the banner.
