I visited Slovakia with two of my three sisters and my mother. We were traveling to visit my grandparents, family villages, on both of my parents side. It was a wonderful trip. We stayed with family and never had a chance to eat out, but for one time at a very nice pastry shop in Kosice. The language barrier was a little hard, for us girls. But,for my mother it was easy for she was the only one who could speak Slovak. So when we came back from one of our many outings with a relative without her. It was always wait till we get back to mother, to start asking all the questions. Then she was getting it from both sides to translate both ways for us. But, it was great.
We just loved how everyone had a fence to keep everyone else out. The goulash party in Slovensky Raj will always be one to remember. Then one cannot also forget the drinking,and more drinking, and that they do not know what the word NO is in either language.

And my favorite memory is when the Anna, who is a cousin somewhere in the family line, that we were staying with for a week finally showed us her collection of babuška. Doesn't my Anna have a beautiful face?!!
