Hotel Rioja: Very decent hotel in a great location

I stayed here 4 nights in Dec 2006/Jan 2007.

Hotel is very quiet, and also kind of boring. Offers absolutely no facilities and the reception area looks kind of pathetic. My room was great though, with obviously recently renovated and spotless bathroom and a TV.

I liked it though as hotel is located in probably the best location if you want to stay in historical center as there are things going on around both during the day and during the night.

Unique Qualities: Location and the value are the best qualities of this hotel. Staff is ok but not the friendliest. My room was spotless and I have no remarks absolutely especially considering relatively low price I paid for the room (US$22).

Address: Avenida 5 de Mayo

Comparison: less expensive than average

Directions: 2-3 minutes walk from the Zocalo

Price: US$20-40

Theme: Hotel

Review Helpfulness: 2.5 out of 5 stars

Mexico City Hostel: Decent hostel with helpful staff Mexico City Hostel Review

I stayed 4 nights at this hostel in November 2006. I asked for a private room, and I got a rooom with 4 beds on the 1st floor with lockers and a small balcony. Room was clean but not cleaned during my stay there. Hotel provides towels, decent breakfast, has internet, and of course gives you a chance to meet other travellers. Does not really have a common room, but it has a small TV area where people hang out.

Unique Qualities: Staff is the hostel's quality number 1. Those girls were amazingly friendly and very helpful. All of them spoke english and made effort to answer all my questions.

Other than that, location is pretty good, close to Zocalo, but not the best. If I go to Mexico City again, I would stay closer to Alameda as this area is more lively at night.

Rate includes breakfast which is ok. Hotel provides internet at the price of US$1 per hour which is kind of an average for Mexico. Hostel is generally very clean but my room was not cleaned once while I was there.

Bad - exchange rate is only 10 pesos for a US$1 so money should be changes elsewhere.

I paid US$18 for a private room including breakfast and shared bath.

Address: Brasil No. 8
