Alicante was not on our planned itinerary at all. We stayed 2 nights in a seaside town / tourist area called El Campello which is 7km away – so we used the chance to visit this town. |
| | The festival “Bonfires of Saint John” The night we were there (June 21) , the big local festival “Bonfires of Saint John” was going on so our experience with Alicante was truly memorable. We found out that this is the most important festival in the city. The town was decorated with unique figures and monuments set up all over the place. Streets were full of people including locals that wore traditional clothes from Alicante. Street stage performers were making noise and it seemed that the real party was just starting around 11 pm. It was amazing. |
| | What we learned... Other than that what we learned about Alicante is that it is one of the fastest growing cities in Spain, it is a capital of the province with the same name, that it has a beauful harbourfront, and that is has a vibrant night life. It is famous by the castle that sits upon the city on a cliff. |
