"Relaxation Oasis" Placencia Village by Srechko

It is unbelievable how much I enjoyed this village. I got here from Honduras after travelling through Latin America for a month. At that point in my travels all I wanted to do was to enjoy the sun, and the beach, and to relax. I found all that here in Placencia.

Main and only patwhay through the village

I got here by taking a 2 hour long motor boat ride from Puerto Cortes (Honduras). Immediately it was obvious that Placencia and Belize don't have much in common with the Latin America. Houses are wooden built on a platform, pace of life is very slow, english is spoken, and overall the atmosphere is very calm. That was exactly what I wanted !!!

Placencia is a small place bordered with laguna on one side and the sandy beach on the other. Apparently this is the only bigger place in Belize with a real sandy beach. It has one pathway going right through the village where all the souvenir shops and restaurants are located. This is also a place where you will meet everyone staying here.

There are a bunch of (expensive) tours you can take from here. I did a Jaguar Cocksombe reserve and half day snorkeling tours. Snorkeling was excellent, jungle tour was just ok - mainly for the reason that we hadn't seen any animals at all (except for the ants).

• Pros:Relaxation, beach, snorkeling, friendly people
• Cons:Night life is bad (unless you are a karaoke fan), accommodation not a good value
