    • A visit to the fort on top of Green Hill is a must. This was the play place for my brothers and me when we lived there as my dad's work place was on the top of the hill - unfortunately this has now been pulled down, as has our house. My brother went back in the 80's with the army to do up the cannons. Sunsets from here are spectacular, as you can see from the picture on this page.
    The fort was built to protect Thursday Island and Australia from invaders from the north. There is a museum in the fort now. Well worth a look.
