    • Favorite Thing: The Byzantine cathedral (1094) is famous for its mosaics, inside and out, the four bronze horses on the front, and the Pala d'Oro altarpiece.

    • Favorite Thing: It has been called the most beautiful drawing room in all of Europe. This is the busiest part of the city for tourists, and there are always hundreds in the square taking photographs and feeding the pidgeons.-
    Its cafés are enchanting, with their outside chairs and orchestras playing classical music.-

    • Favorite Thing: Across which prisoners would be led from the Ducal Palace (right) to the prison (left)... or in the other direction, if they were to be executed in the piazza.-

    • Favorite Thing: The Rialto is one of the most famous bridges in the world. The view from the Rialto of the Grand Canal is excellent. Go to both sides of the bridge when you are at the apex.

    • Favorite Thing: It was the residence of the Doge up to the fall of the Venetian Republic in I797. The exterior facade is decorated in white and pink marble, and it looks rather like a marble wedding-cake.-
