Seattle-not that wet!

by scargo - last update: Aug 5, 2005

Seattle on a good (clear) day....

Ranier from downtown
Seattle was not what I expected. A little like San Francisco.....or even rainfall in New Haven, but cloudier.
Weather cooperated most of the time and it seems to rain at night or in the early morning hours. Lush, beautiful city!
Japanese Garden-Seattle

Japanese Garden at Washington Park Arboretum

We got there just after it closed so this is a view from the fence on the north end. I think that it is a spectacular view even though we were outside the grounds. Shot with Nikon D-100 and wide angle lens.
Black Sun Sculpture-Volunteer Park, Seattle

Isamu Noguchi sculpture "Black Sun"

Near the Japanese Garden and the walking trails of Washington Park Arboretum is Capital Hill and Volunteer Park. There is the "Aqua Pura" tower and about a 100 yards away is a water basin and the Seattle Asian Art Museum. The shot is with the museum behind me and downtown Seattle ahead. The Space Needle can be seen in the center of the large sculpture. Fun! 45-acre Volunteer Park was designed in 1904. It is a lofty, grassy expanse used for picnicking, sunbathing, reading, etc. This is one of the city's older parks. Large old trees and big rhododendrons make for a spectacular park. Some trees are over a hundred years old. There is a traffic circle at the south entrance, which goes around the water tower, built in 1906. Near the museum is Volunteer Park Conservatory: 206-684-4743. The greenhouse is one of only three conservatories remaining in the U.S. from pre World War II. I will post pics of the 75 foot tall "Aqua Pura Water Tower" elsewhere in recommended sightseeing.

Pros:"Beautiful, lush vegitation, great food, good economy"
Cons:"Attracts homeless because of moderate climate."
In A Nutshell:"I like it. May move there....so I can easily ski Whistler"
