  • Of course, the first thing you'd probably do in Luxembourg is seeing the capital. It's the biggest city, with about 90.000 people. There is the Royal Palace, lovely downtown with pedestrian area, narrow streets and colourful houses, but all with dark blue roof tops, Grund "hole" with lots of museums, galleries, chruches, restaurants, all on water channels, parks... It's a very interesting town and full of life in the summer because all the time there is something organized!

  • The oldest and most beautiful part of Luxembourg city! There are museums, restaurants, galleries, concert halls, walking trails, ruins of the fortress whose bullwark is a World Heritage, small river, a church and lots of interesting corners to explore!

  • In the downtown there is a veeeeeery interesting museum that I highly recommand! It's a history museum, and the section of Nazi occupation is extremely interesting! It's very odd, full of strange rooms and formations, with sound and light effects, interactive, with Mac computer room, very modern and beautifully designed. On Thursdays from 18h to 20h the entrance is free. A man in uniform will show you in, put you in a space shuttle alike lift made of glass and send you to the museum floor. Very exciting!!! :-)

  • Moselle is the region super famous for its vineyards and wine cellars. I've visited a couple, and I was truly impressed! This is Bernard-Massard in Grevenmacher. They organize visit to the caves, demonstration of wine production with explication how the sparkling wine is made, a beautiful movie about Luxembourg and their cellar and wine tasting. You get to choose from several wines, I'd recommend Peach flavoured sparkling wine (!!!) I was very doubtful at first, but curious to try and it was one of the best sparkling wines I've ever had! Very bizarre!
They export 75% of their wines, and they won a prize for the best sparking wine in the world, beating even famous Champagne region wines!
    Admission details:

    Caves Bernard-Massard (sparkling wine).
Open from April 1 to October 31 daily from
    9.30 a.m.to 6 p.m..Admission fees:adults
3 eur ,adults in a group 2,75 eur ,children 2 eur,
children in a group 1,75 eur .The fee includes
tasting of sparkling wine or grape juice.

Things To Do: CAVES ST. MARTIN

  • Another cellar I visited is Caves St. Martin in Remich, and my experience was not so positive, I've faced arrogance and hostility. The guide didn't want to let me in although I came during the visiting hours, but in fact he was lazy to make a tour for one person, but when I complained to the boss (who was very kind!), who was shocked by this attitude, I got my tour. Their cellars are more beautiful and interesting, however, they had smaller choice of wines and I preferred those from Bernard-Massard. But, unlike other cellars, they are the only ones in Luxembourg who kept the tradition of manual bottle shaking! Their cellars are dug into the hills behind.
They also have a beautiful restaurant.
This cellar is maybe 500-700m walk along Moselle from the Remich downtown.

    Open from April 1
    to October 31 daily from 10 to 12 a.m.and
    from 1.30 to 6 p.m..From November 1 to
March 31 visits for groups of at least 10
    persons by prior arrangement.Tasting
pavilion for wine and sparkling wine.
    Admission fees:adults 2,75 eur ,adults in a
group 2,50 eur ,children 1,75 eur ,children in a group 1,40 eur .The fee includes tasting of
    sparkling wine,wine or grape juice.

  • This medieval looking pension/restaurant is in Bourscheid village, offering accommodation and restaurant services. It's really authentic and reminds me of medieval movies.

  • It's a mini botanical garden with exotic plants, butterflies, insects and birds, in Grevenmacher. It's very beautiful, however, extremely small! it's just one room. Inside you'll find the most colourful butterflies, parrots, birds which can't fly and have a shape of a ball, I have no idea what kind of a bird is it but it looks like NZ kiwi! Maybe it was that one?! There are carnivor plants, hibiscus, orchids and other exotic flowers, etc... It's extremely HOT and HUMID inside!!!
The staff is extremely kind and friendly!

    Open from April 1
    to October 15 daily from 9.30 a.m.to 5
    p.m..Admission fees:adults 5,50 eur ,adults

Bonjour mon ami! Your home pages were very helpful. I especially enjoyed your Luxembourg page. Like you, I knew nothing about the place except that workers get 100% or more of their pre-retirement income.
