The Lake of Orta

Orta lake is a gorgeous little lake, very underrated and little known, probably because most of the people (especially tourists) are focused on major lakes which are just behind the corner - super popular Maggiore and Como lake. However, Orta is a little intact jewel, well hidden and genuine, and if you're into some rustic wilderness and quiet atmosphere, but willing to see some old towns and beautiful beaches, Lago d'Orta is the place for you! It's situated in the region of Piedmont, province of Novara and easily accessible by motorway and good roads around the lake.

we are looking for a nice place to have a meal after our wedding.we want informal typical italian. we are staying in Ota san Gulio and do no want to drive to a restaurant so etiher it has to be in Orta san giulio or be able to get a boat.

Thankyou so much for your insight and pictures of Lago d'Orta. I'm going on exchange to Italy in January for five months, I will be stay in pettenasca for 3 months and Gozzano for two. So your knowledge and experience in the area helped me prepare!

Jelena, you have convinced me to visit Lago d'Orta :-)) I am thinking about a "round trip" in the area and yes, this would be a place I like, not overcrowded and lovely old houses and streets, and the food :-)))
