Cheap beer at The Blue Room in Burbank ...$2.25 Coors or Miller. Prices for all drinks just went up $0.25, but 2.25 for a beer is a pretty great deal in LA! Little, a dive, jukebox, laid back.

Nightlife Spot: Good Luck Club
Chinese atmosphere, it has couches and soft chairs in one room, it makes me feel like I am hanging out in a living room of a friend...that has a Buddha on the wall, dims the lights low, and has waitresses...okay, maybe it really isn't like a friends living room, but very comfortable. It gets packed around 10ish. There is also a bar area.

Nightlife Spot: Dresden
It was in the movie Swingers, and that really bad duet you saw in the movie is really at this place on the weekends. The music is not really good (But, very amusing), the drinks aren't cheap, but it is great people watching.

Nightlife Spot: Harvelle’s - Blues Club
I was just at Harvelle’s this Saturday for the first time and loved it. It’s a blues club that reminded me of the Chicago-type blues club. It had a 30ish crowd, with a great live blues band and a dance floor. It wasn’t too crowded, has good seating, interesting 'blues' art, and is friendly. The cover was $10, and the beer was about $4.

Nightlife Spot: The Derby
The Derby is an LA legend. It is actually a supper club, although I have never eaten here. On Saturday night's there is live swing music and you will see people dressed up in swing clothes (less frequently today) and just plain old regular clothes. They also offer Swing Lessons on Saturdays at about 7:30 for free. A little history: In 1926 the film director Cecil B. De Mille came up with the idea and it was opened in 1929 as Willard's Chicken Inn. The dome shaped roof led to the current name of The Derby, but in between Willard's and today it was one of five Brown Derby's in LA.

For Watching Soccer (footbal) Go to Lucky Baldwin’s Soccer games on TV and lots of different beers. The bar is not designed the best, but there are lots of nooks and crannies to hang out and find a little privacy in the madness.

Nightlife Spot: Moose McGillicuddy’s
College night on Wednesday night: $7 cover and $1 rail drinks and taps of Miller Lite. I, personally don’t like it here that night, but I’m 33, so a little above the target demographic. It gets really crowded and they have dancing.

Nightlife Spot: 35er
This is a bar. When you think of a standard bar, the 35er would fit the bill. No nonsense, extremely casual, you’ll find some drunkies here most of the time. Reasonably priced beer

If you are into dancing check out Qs or The Muse, they are pretty hard core dancing. Teh Muse has three different areas, it can be interesting. Not really my kind of place, but fun if you are into it.

Nightlife Spot: weekly calendar of events
A good place to find out who (music or film) is playing where for the upcoming weekend/week is the weekly paper, L.A. Weekly. This publication, supported by ad revenues, comes out on Thursdays at various popular traffic areas. There is an online source at www.laweekly.com. At the site click on Calendar, and there will be various categories of clubs and their lineups. Other than the weekly calendar, they offer some one-sided commentary on politics, local dealings in LA, and pop culture.
