Know where you are going

Review the map before the trip and during the trip. Keep your bearings so you don't get lost. There are some trail signs and look for the red and white circles that mark the trail.

Be Prepared...The weather changes

Like the Cub Scouts, "Be Prepared". The mountains can be unpredictable. We were hiking in shorts and T-shirts on a sunny hot first day, but the second day it was below freezing when we started off for the day. The wind can be strong, precipitation can come powerfully, just bring the necessary gear: good boots, rain gear, some warm clothes, and sun block would be helpful.

Try layering your clothes, your body temperature can vary throughout the day, just like the weather.

Tricky Trails

The trails can be treacherous at times. There are parts of the trail that you will be using cabling or metal posts to continue on the trail. On the way down from Triglav I shimmyed across a cabled part of the trail on to a vertical descent on metal posts. This is not for the faint of heart, be careful and conscious of where you are and where you are going.
