"El Cristo Negro" Esquipulas by darthmilmo

Esquipulas Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 4 photos

A mere 4 hours away from Guatemala City and an hour or so from El Salvador, the town of Esquipulas is the religious mecca of Central America. Many of faithful cristians come from afar to pay their respects to the imfamous Cristo Negro (Black Christ). Legend has it that so many people from old came and rubbed the crussifix that after several hundred years it turned black. It's trully a wonderful piece of art alone, definitly worth the stop en route to El Salvador.
