I entered the exotic country of Peru on a balsa at the new border crossing of 'La Balsa' (excuse the repetition). I immediately made my way to Chachapoyas, a lovely Peruvian town that in my opinion could be developed to rival Cusco in the future. Sadly it doesn’t have much tourism infrastructure. Once in there, I lucked out and met 3 fellow backpackers, 2 crazy guys from Australia and a gal from the UK. Together, we hired a taxi to take the four of us to the ruins of Kuelap, a spectacular pre-Inca walled city (Pre-Inca is the term used over here to denote any civilization that lived before the Incas).
