In 2001 i took a cargo boat up the Amazon river, from Belem to Manaus.
6 days on the river living on a boat together with around 80 brazilians.
I slept on the deck in my hammock and had 3 meals a day for all together 55 US dollars.
- Pros:Adventure.
- Cons:You might have a problem if you don't like rice and beans.
- In a nutshell:Just do it

Claus, I really enjoyed this little trip up the Amazon with you! I would love to try something like that myself! Your 'banana boat' tip reminded me of Africans running up to the bus as I made a long-distance Zambia to Tanzania ride many decades ago!
nice page - it is good to be young and adventurous. :)
What an adventure! Wonderful little page!
Awesome page on Amazonas. I really liked the photos of the Indian family and the banana boat.
Sounds like a great adventure - meeting local people is always the most memorable part of any trip!
