Cambodia is a country with a very interesting history. Both the ancient and the modern history. about a thousand years ago it was a very powerful country run by ther khmers who originally came from India and Sri Lanka and it was also the place where the communist regime "khmer rouge" uner Pol Pot in the 1970's killed around one third of the population of Cambodia in order to build a rice farming country free of all intellectuals and wealthy people.
Today it's a country that is emerging from the ashes after the years of khmer rouge terror. The country get a lot of help from foreign NGO's and i am fairly confident that Cambodia will emerge as a well functioning country within a couple of decades.
It's one heck of an interesting place to visit these years. Of course because of the amazing Ankor Wat, but also because of all the other things Cambodia has to offer.
Go there now. This place is still an adventure to visit. |
