The trams in Lisbon are unfortunately infected with pickpockets big time.
That is especially if a group of tourists enters a tram together.
In that case it´s amlost certain that pickpockets will operate there.
They usually work in gangs of two or three, where one person starts pushing someone who stands in the tram while the other two goes through the pockets and the purses.
The pickpockets are mostly middle aged guys who look fairly innocent at first glance.
Yuo can be pretty sure though that they always work in groups, so be careful if you see 3 guys or more enter the tram at the same time.
Sitting down while being in the tram is also a lot safer than standing up as you are harder to push around.
