faaborg havn.
Favorite thing: faaborg has a pretty big harbour where you have both fishing vessels and private yachts.
if you are travelling denmark by boat it's a very recommended place to make a stop.
helios teatret.
Favorite thing: faaborg has a nice cinema that is run by local movie buffs.
it shows popular films but also some artier stuff if that is what you like.
like the rest of denmark, it´s always shown in original language with subtitles.
it´s called helios teatret and the adress of the cinema is:
Banegårdspladsen 7 5600 Faaborg
Go online in Faaborg with a harbour view.
Favorite thing: The harbour in Faaborg has free wifi for everyone who comes down there, which makes it a perfect place to pass an afternoon while getting a bit of work done on the computer.
You have several cafes and restaurants down there where you can sit in peace with your computer and get some work done with a cold drink in your hand.
I often do that and find the free harbour wifi one of the coolest things in Faaborg.
Gåsebjergsand.
Favorite thing: About 3 kilometers outside Faaborg you have a very nice nature playground for children and their families.
It´s set up by an NGO and is free to use and a good place to spend an afternoon if you are in Faaborg with your kids.
In order to get there you need to drive towards Nyborg and then make a left turn when you see the sign for Gåsebjergsand.
Den Voigtske gaard where Riborg Voigt grew up.
Favorite thing: If you read some articles about the great danish writer Hans Christian Andersen then many of them suggests that he was gay, but he certainly liked women too and in particular a woman from Faaborg called Riborg Voigt.
She was the sisiter of one of his fellow students and he met her when he was visiting him once and fell in love with her right away.
She was allready engaged though and also the daughter of a wealthy merchant who would most likely never accept that she married a bohemian writer.
They stayed in touch their whole life over mail though and among many things he wrote a poem called "two brown eyes" about her (Hans Christian Andersen had a big facination with dark women).
The house where Riborg Voigt grew up is still standing in the center of Faaborg and is very well preserved.
The name of it is "Den Voigtske gaard".
Canal at the harbour of Faaborg.
Favorite thing: A few years ago the harbour in Faaborg underwent a major restoration where they aimed to turn it more in to a recreational place as most of the industry was not there anymore so making it a livable place seemed the obvious thing to do and i think they did a pretty good job.
These days you have a few small canals at the harbour where small boats can dock and kayaks sail without having to worry about waves and i think that is really nice and i love to ride my bicycle along the canals and across the little walking/cycling bridges over the canals when i am down by the harbour.
Faaborg arrest.
Favorite thing: From 1929 to 1989 Faaborg had a prison right on the main square.
In danish that old prison was called "faaborg arrest".
It was a very small prison with a few cells and these days the building is part of the local archives and they have kept 3 old prison cells open for the public so that people could see what prison life was like in the past.
they even had a temporary exhibition of Nelson Mandelas prison cell from island there a few years ago.
The post office in Faaborg.
Favorite thing: In Faaborg you will need to go to one of the main supermarkets if you need the postoffice.
There used to be a postoffie in town, but a few years ago the danish postal service closed it down and opened a small postoffice inside the supermarket Superbrugsen.
It's open in the afternoon and should be able to serve you the most common needs you might have at a postoffice, but it can be a little hard to find for a visitor so i rthought i would mention here where it is.
The adress of Superbrugsen where it's located is Mellemgade 16 which is in the center of town.
