Nyboder is a collection of little lowscale yellow houses that were build between 1631 and 1641 for sailors when the danish navy expanded heavily.
It's in my opinion one of the most charming parts of Copenhagen and the houses are still owned by the danish army eventhough it's not all navy people who live in them these days.
I personally love the fact that they are protected but also used for living in and not just standing as empty museums.
It's a nice and quiet part of the city with a lot of history to it.
Directions: Nyboder is located a little north of the city center close to the train station called "Østerport" and also pretty close to the little mermaid, so if you are visiting her then i think it would be a great idea to walk past Nyboder aswell.
The Tycho Brahe planetarium is worth a visit and for that matter nice to look at from the outside too.
it also has an IMAX cinema and a good restaurant.
The architecture of the place is quite different and sitting by the end of one of the Copenhagen lakes makes it a bit of a landmark.
Address: Gl. Kongevej 10, 1610 København V
Directions: Right in the center of town, one minute walk from the train station.

Nørrebro is the bohemian part of Copenhagen.
It is often referred to as the latin quater of Copenhagen and it surely has it´s own vibe.
It has a mix of emmigrants and younger people because the apartments are mostly quite, small, quite old and quite cheap.
This is also a part of Copenhagen with some social problems and more conservative danes often dislkes the place, especially if they have never been there.
I have lived in many parts of Copenhagen and must say that this is by far where i felt the best community spirit and i love Nørrecro more than any other place in Copenhagen.
If you are familiar with Berlin then Nørrebro can in many waus be compared to Kreuzberg.
The place has many small cafes with a mix of intellectuals, emmigrants and local alcoholics aswell as many small shops ranging from little art shops to middle eastern grocery stores.
Directions: Located very close to the center of town right across the bridge called "Dronning louises bro".
The round tower.
The round tower (rundetårn in Danish) is a very unique building that was build between 1637 and 1642 as an astronomical tower and it has been used by many astronomers including danish astronomer Ole Rømer who discoverd the speed of light.
It is 41,8 meters high and was after the orders of king Christian the 4th and it is also a church tower for Trinitatis kirke (The holy trinity church).
You can climb to the top of the tower if you like and that is well worth it as the view of Copenhagen is very good from the top.
you have to pay an entrance for that though.
About two thrids up you have a rather odd sight which is an old toilet used by many people over the centuries and Hans Christian Andersen is just one of many famous danes who have been sitting there with his pants down :O).
They actually have a very funny little leaflet about the toilet that you can get for free there.
You do not walk up on a staircase to the top of the tower, but on a spiral walkway that was made so that heavy astronomical instruments could be transported to the top by horse carriage, but some world leaders, including Peter the great from Russia also had their own personal horse carriages to drive them up there.

The little mermaid
Of course you have to see the mermaid just like all the other tourists.
Just be aware that there is a reason why it's called the LITTLE mermaid.
It's very small indeed and many tourists are dissapointed, but if you prepare yourself for a tiny little statue then you might just like it.
Directions: It's located at langelinie.
Rosenborg castle is one of the pettiest in Copenhagen and it also has a good museum telling about the royals in denmark over the centuries and the castle is also housing the crown jewels of Denmark.
The castle is roughly 400 years old and situated in a park called Kongens Have (the kings garden).
A very popular hang out for locals on a sunny day and favorite spot for sunbading and BBQ'ing.
Address: Øster Voldgade 4A, 1350 København K
Directions: It´s located right in the center of town, 2 minutes walk from Nørreport station.

kayaks at christianshavn
christianshavn used to be a very working class part of copenhagen with bad quality apartment blocks and lot's of social probplems, but in the past two decades it has turned in to one of the most expensive places to live in copenhagen.
that is no suprise as it has a superb location right in the center of town and because of all the canals and old houses it is one very idyllic place.
it's the perfect place to go f you want to chill out by the canal with a beer, or you can visit one of the many nice cafes that are in christianshavn.
the opera and christiania is also located in that part of copenhagen.
pretty girls entering christiania
christiania is a famous hippie community sitting right smack in the center of town.
it used to be a part of town beloning to the army but has for more than 30 years been occupied by hippies who live their own alternative lifestyle.
it's a nice place to go if you start to think that everything is a bit too organised and civilized in the rest of copenhagen.
the place has a lot of performing art and a very vibrant music scene.
there are often big bands giving concerts out there.
christiania is a place where the people try to live as organic as possible too and organic stores are all over the place.
the place has in recent years has a bit of friction with the danish goverment because of the precense of marihuana and the absence of tax paying and if the police comes by when you are there i advice you to take a step back as fights do occur from time to time between police and christiania residents.
having said that you should not worry about visiting though.
it's one of the safest parts of copenhagen and people are calm and friendly even if they look a little odd.
Directions: located near christianshavn metro station.
ørsteds parken is located right in the center of copenhagen and is a great get away from the hustle and bustle of the center of town.
the park has a lake with swans and lot's of benches to eat your picknick.
sunbading is also very popular there in the summertime.
while the park in daytime hours is a park where families hang out, it turns in to a meeting point for quick homosexual sex at night, so unless you are looking for that it's better to stay away from the park at night.
if you on the other hand is looking for a quickie, then this is certainly the place to go though.
families should not be worries about that during daylight though as it in the daytime is a favorite hangout for families with small children.
Address: Nørre Voldgade, København K
Directions: Corner of Nørre Voldgade, H.C. Andersen Boulevard & Nørre Farimagsgade
happt days and cafe halvandet.
copenhagen has a nice beach bar called cafe halvandet.
it´s located on a small island in copenhagen called refshaleøen and is just off christianshavn.
the owners have turned an old run down part of copenhagen in to a trendy beach scene with people sunbading and shooting down fancy cocktails.
nice place for people watching on a lazy afternoon.
Directions: located on refshaleøen.
